Playboy Playmate Maria Luisa Gil is a Cuban-born beauty whose lust for life took her into some dangerously dark alleys. Maria was born in Cuba but moved with her family to the States while she was still young. Maria grew up with stars in her eyes, dreaming of becoming a famous model and actress. Upon graduating from high school, she set out to attain that goal.
Maria submitted her photos to Playboy, hoping to use a pictorial to kick-start her career. Her 34-24-34 figure didn't hurt her chances, and she was named Miss June 1998. Her acting career never really got started, though, and Maria drifted in and out of modeling gigs for the next few years. She eventually met and married Pedro Pajes, a man twenty years her senior. Their marriage wasn't to bring much good news to Maria's life.
Only five months after getting married, Pedro and Maria were arrested and charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Pedro tried to buy $209,000 worth of coke from undercover DEA agents, and Maria was to serve as his baglady, dropping off the cash. Pedro eventually was given life in prison, while Maria pled guilty to a reduced charge of failing to report a felony. She was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison in July 2001.
Interestingly enough, Maria named 'Scarface' as her favorite film in her Playboy bio sheet. It seems that she may have taken the film a bit too much to heart. Here's hoping that Maria can get her life back on track once she gets out of jail. Tony Montana's not really the greatest role model.
