Roger T. Pipe What is your title now with Evil Angel?
Tricia Deveraux I am head of the DVD Department for all of Evil Angel.
Roger T. Pipe So you handle the whole team?
Tricia Deveraux I don't have Randy West yet. He is under contract with another company, but other than his, I do every DVD that we release.
Roger T. Pipe What are your responsibilities, how do you get a DVD out the door?
Tricia Deveraux When the video portion of a movie is finished, I oversee every step until it gets to the customer. I used to do all of the sales work as well, but now the VHS sales people handle that. I still oversee all of the accounts because DVD customers have special needs that I have to address. The internet retail sites have needs and I make sure our sales force meets those needs.
Roger T. Pipe Congratulations, from everything I've seen, you're doing a fine job. For those readers who may not know, you started out as a performer in this business.
Tricia Deveraux Yes I did.
Roger T. Pipe I was a huge fan by the way.
Tricia Deveraux Thank you, but don't make it sound like ancient history.
Roger T. Pipe How many movies did you do?
Tricia Deveraux A little over a hundred or so.
Roger T. Pipe If you could pick out a few that would be your best work, what would they be?
Tricia Deveraux "Week and a Half in the Life of a Prostitute" by Elegant Angel, for a more recent, Evil Angel movie, I would say "Buttman's Toy Stories". That was the most fun for me to watch. I was in "Bad Wives" from Vivid which is a great movie overall. People tell me they liked my scenes, but it was a great movie. There are only a few scenes out there that I would tell people to stay away from. I had a great time.
Roger T. Pipe You worked with some of the best directors in the history of porn, including John Stagliano. How was he different to work for?
Tricia Deveraux It was actually a little harder for me to work with John. He doesn't do scripted work in his gonzo movies. It's more of an idea that you have to ad lib. I get really nervous with that. I know you can always do a second take, but once you say something wrong, you get more nervous and it just keeps getting worse. What makes John great is that he loves porn more than other directors. You can tell he really cares about it so it turns out better.
Roger T. Pipe When you were performing, did you like doing dialog scenes?
Tricia Deveraux I loved it. I enjoyed features and acting, it was a lot of fun.
Roger T. Pipe Did you have a favorite role?
Tricia Deveraux All the stuff I did for Rob Black was great. I got to play characters who were so not me. Only once did I play the innocent little girl. In the other movies I got to be a little crazy or wild. That was fun to play for a few hours at a time.
Roger T. Pipe Will you continue to perform once in a while?
Tricia Deveraux I might. I can't see myself doing any more than one hard core scene in a year. After the baby, I am going to take some time for myself. That might leave time for one scene this year, but it's not something I'm planning on right now. It's hard for me to do right now. I have to find the right person to work with.
Roger T. Pipe For those who don't know, you are HIV positive. How long ago did you test positive?
Tricia Deveraux Three years.
Roger T. Pipe How is your health?
Tricia Deveraux It's really good. I only started taking medicine three or four months ago and that was only for the baby. I was still doing really well, being tested every few months by a specialist. It's better for the baby if I take the medicine, so obviously that's what I'm doing now.
Roger T. Pipe How pregnant are you?
Tricia Deveraux Six months. I see a separate doctor who specializes in seeing moms with HIV. She is really good. Only one percent of her births turn out to test positive. We already have a pediatrician for the baby, so all of our bases are covered.
Roger T. Pipe Obviously, best wishes and we'll all be thinking good thoughts. How long have you and John been together?
Tricia Deveraux Two and a half years and I've been living with him for almost a year and a half. We're together, pretty much for keeps, but he still has that bachelor in him.
Roger T. Pipe Do you miss performing?
Tricia Deveraux Oh yeah. I love porn, but I don't like everything about it. I don't like the way people present themselves sometimes. You can still be in this business and be dignified. There are so many women who are good representatives, like Julie Ashton.
Roger T. Pipe You've always been a great representative of the business. Any time I saw you, you were nicely dressed, well behaved and very personable with fans.
Tricia Deveraux And I always have a great time. The fans had fun with me because I really liked meeting them. I just have a line that is maybe a little closer to middle America than some people in this business do.
Roger T. Pipe What does the future hold for you?
Tricia Deveraux I want to help make Evil Angel DVD the best it can be. Maybe five years down the road I might look to do something that is more for myself, but for now, I'm very happy.
Roger T. Pipe Might that include some behind the camera work?
Tricia Deveraux It might. If directing is something that works out, then so be it. I like to keep options open. I want to try some new things. If I did direct, I think I can find a good balance between production values and script while still focusing on the sex.
Roger T. Pipe As a performer, do you think you could better relate to talent if you did direct?
Tricia Deveraux Yes. I was on a scene this year where the girl started crying. She was doing a scene with Lexington Steele. He wasn't doing anything wrong, but it was still hard on the girl. She tried, but it just didn't happen. I went up to her and was able talk to her and work her through it. On the other hand, since I was a performer, I get extra frustrated with ones who are just flaky. I have been there and I know what it takes. When there is an honest problem, I am very sensitive to that.
Roger T. Pipe Do you think the industry is doing enough to protect itself from further HIV cases?
Tricia Deveraux Not really.
Roger T. Pipe If you could wave a magic wand, what would you change?
Tricia Deveraux I don't know if I would even want to. I wish someone could, but it's a society-wide problem. I participate in a few different fan forums and I get worried hearing about all of the unprotected sex outside of the industry where there is not regular testing. In my case, Marc Wallice was tested, and there is nothing that says what happened to me can't happen again. It's been almost three years since the last major infection and people are getting relaxed again. I can understand when girls say 'I work with this person all of the time, so I'm not going to request a condom.' I do understand because that is what I did. The people I trusted, I didn't request a condom. The only way to be sure is to know everything that person has done for the past few months of his life.
Roger T. Pipe Have you spoken to Marc?
Tricia Deveraux He did not attempt to speak to me. He did try to talk to some of the other girls, but not to me. That's probably for the best because I really had nothing good to say to him. He did try to talk to John, but John's attitude was just 'why are you the one complaining and acting like the victim.' That's pretty much what I would say to him as well.

Update Isabella Joi was born on March 3, and is doing wonderfully. She tested negative for HIV.
Tricia Deveraux I've gone back to work a little less than full-time for now. Evil Angel DVD is currently producing between 6 and 8 DVDs each month, including 2 or 3 simultaneous "day and date" VHS and DVD releases.
These simultaneous releases are very difficult because of the additional time it takes to produce the DVD. After the video is edited, Evil Angel works on the chapter menu and something we started called a fetish menu. This is basically an index of the different types of sex acts and some tease from the movie.
From there, we work closely with the authorer as he designs the DVD.
Tricia Deveraux Finally, I'm looking forward to directing my first scene. John has generously agreed to be the cameraman for the scene, and with his input and expertise, I'm very excited about the possibilities for it.
