From the opening short subject, through the AVN Awards Show clips, until you finally get to the main menu, the Bobby Sox digital video disk is both a technical and an erotic work of art. We thought very highly of the film when we reviewed the videotape in August, and our awards voters thought equally so when they gave it six awards, including Best Film, last January.

But Vivid has really outdone itself with this DVD. Just insert the disk in the player and you're immediately greeted with a five-minute short titled There Is No Girl Like a Vivid Girl. This top-quality, MTV-style hardcore featurette is designed to introduce new viewers to the entire roster of Vivid girls, with clips from their videos and short interview segments. Since it can easily be looped on the DVD player, it's ideal for in-store display. (And for those in conservative communities, the disk also contains a soft-core version that's equally useful.)

The image quality of Bobby Sox, as expected, is significantly better than that of videotape, and slightly better than the laserdisk version. The feature is divided into ten chapters, all of which are directly accesible from the main menu. But what makes Bobby Sox unique among all DVD's released so far, including main-stream titles, is that certain scenes can be viewed from multiple angles (A red diamond-shaped icon in the lower right corner of the screen signals when multiple angles are available.)

There are 12 scenes in Bobby Sox that have either two, three, or four different camera angles that you can choose, said Vivid spokesman Jim Monroe. That's because Paul Thomas always shoots with two or three cameras, and we've incorporated that extra footage, which the viewer would ordinarily never get to see, into this DVD. In the future, it's going to get even better, because we're going to be shooting with this type of format in mind, which is going to give us a huge advantage.

Also, if your sound system has 5.2 Surroundsound capability, various parts of Bobby Sox's soundtrack have been sweetened to take advantage of it.

But that's not all - in fact, we've barely scratched the surface. The disk also contains photos, video clips, and biographical data for each performer; previews of future Vivid DVD's and existing DVD-compatible Video CDs; a Vivid Int.Tel.Sex game; and a preview of Vivid Interactive's upcoming CD-ROM game, Kobe's Virtual World.

Finally, there are even two sections for use with DVD-ROM players on computers, which allow the player access to Vivid 's various websites. And international buyers take note: this disk is not encoded, and is playable world-wide.

With pre-orders pegged at over 5700 units, it's no wonder Monroe proclaimed, There's the highest level of interest in getting this title than anything we've ever released.
